As the metropolitan hub of the Philippines, Manila has attracted visitors and Filipinos for many years, whether it’s for a city break or business trip. With towering skyscrapers and luxury megamalls, it’s no wonder more overseas travellers are heading towards the Pearl of the Orient. One of Manila’s popular districts is Bonifacio Global City, a lifestyle and financial region in Taguig, Manila. It’s the perfect place to go for a day trip in the city, with a range of dining and activities for all the family. Find out more about Manila’s premiere hotspot.
How to Get There
Bonifacio Global City (or BGC for short) can be found near the Philippines Military base, just six miles away from NAIA airport. The fastest way of getting to the Fort (a local nickname for BGC) is by taking the Skyway, an elevated motorway in southern Metro Manila. While you may not always get to pick and choose when your flight lands, rush hour can be an issue. However, if you were to travel during lunchtime on a weekday, or in the evening, it would take about 30 minutes from the centre of Makati.
Where to Eat
Manila itself has grown into a melting pot in recent years, attracting businesses and expats from all around the globe, so it’s no wonder its food scene is just as diverse. You’ll find some of the Philippines’ most illustrious restaurants in Bonifacio, including the world-famous Taiwanese chain Din Tai Fung in the high street. Known for its delectable Xio Long Baus, or Shanghai dumplings, you’ll find residences and visitors lining up waiting to get a table. Located in the Shangri-La at The Fort, The Ministry of Crab is a Sri Lankan dining venue specialising in the juiciest crabs found around Asia. For a typical Filipino meal, Manaom is a local favourite, with queues going around the block, serving delicious home cooked-style meals like Sisig and Kare kare with a modern twist.
What to Do
From bustling nightlife to daytime family fun, there are plenty of activities in Bonifacio Global City. The Mind Museum, a world-class science centre, is the perfect place to take children for a couple of hours. The educational centre has four main entry points on Lawton Avenue, McKinley Road, Kalayaan Avenue and C-5. When the sun goes down, the lights of BGC continue to shine. Hidden beneath a 7/11 convenience store on 26th and 25th Street is a secret speakeasy and the luxury club, Revel the Place, is where some of Manila’s elite gather for a night out. With approximately five malls in the district and a popular high street, you can shop to your heart’s desire. At the end of Bonifacio High Street is the high-end SM Aura Mall where you can find international brands and restaurants. Across the street is the Market Market shopping centre where you can find local souvenirs, snacks and a produce market outside.
