In 2008 the landscape of luxury travel in the Middle East changed forever. Taking up prime position on the crest of the man-made marvel that is Palm Jumeirah Island, Atlantis the Palm, Dubai opened its doors to guests for the first time. The marine-themed five-star mega resort became an instant hit, and before long garnered a reputation approaching icon status.

Ten years later that reputation is sealed. Instantly recognisable by its grand, Moorish arch centrepiece and sprawling, pink sand-coloured façade, Atlantis the Palm, Dubai stands tall as a symbol of the UAE’s penchant for shock and awe. OTT? A little. Ostentatious? Sure. This is Dubai, would you want it any other way?

Following its star-studded launch in 2008, Atlantis the Palm, Dubai has made it its duty to provide each and every visitor with a unique holiday experience. It introduced the region’s number-one waterpark; opened restaurants with some of the world’s most renowned chefs; designed a special suite especially for Facebook fans; and much, much more. In essence, it created moment after moment that has taken people a world away from their everyday.

Atlantis the Palm, Dubai has made a decade of unforgettable memories. And there’s no sign of slowing down. Ready to begin another ten years of bucket-list-busting experiences, the resort is on the cusp of launching some new and never-seen-before attractions. While we eagerly await the arrival of those, the Kenwood team got together to share their Atlantis highlights from the last ten years.

Dive in

“The luxury of the overall hotel experience is amazing of course, but I go to Atlantis the Palm, Dubai to cause a splash! With 17 hectares of adrenaline-fuelled rides and slides, Aquaventure Waterpark is billed as the Middle East and Europe’s number one waterpark, and is one of Dubai’s main attractions in its own right. But if you don’t fancy taking on Poseidon’s Revenge, The Leap of Faith or Shark Attack, there’s always the Lost Chambers Aquarium, Dolphin Bay and Sea Lion Point to keep your underwater adventure going. Meet the marine life, swim with dolphins, scuba and snorkel; so much fun.”

Size Matters

“The sheer size is what gets me every time. The whole site is actually the same size as the Vatican City (110 acres – Ed.), and there are over 1,500 rooms and more than 20 restaurants. Just amazing!”

Posh Nosh

“Talk about hashtag ‘serving you the extraordinary’; the food at Atlantis is something else. I still haven’t managed to eat in all 23 onsite restaurants but it’s on my list! What I love about Atlantis is the glitz and glam, and the dining really taps into that with the celebrity chef restaurants. Check out Ronda Locatelli for authentic Italian cuisine, Bread Street Kitchen & Bar for British fare from none other than Mr Gordon Ramsay, and, my favourite, Nobu; the world-famous restaurant that continues to redefine Japanese cooking.”

Top Shopping

“Most luxury hotels would be happy with just one on-site shopping boutique. At Atlantis, though, there are five. Because of the handy location at the waterpark, you’ll usually find me in Aquaventure Boutique or Barracudas Boutique grabbing last minute sunscreen and swimwear for the kids. Dolphin Bay Boutique does a great line in beach dresses and holiday fashion in general, and I get all my souvenirs and gifts for friends and family at The Lost Chambers Boutique and Legends Of Atlantis.”

Bar, spa, beach, repeat

“Atlantis Kids Club and The Zone for teens, as well as a brilliant babysitting service, means mum and dad won’t struggle for me time at Atlantis. Hit the pristine private beach, grab a drink at Wavehouse ‘rustic-beach-bar-meets-gastro-pub’, or slow things down on your Dubai holiday with some real R&R. Shuiqi Spa – think aromatherapy, Shiseido sessions, ESPA treatments and signature practices from Bastien Gonzales – is a sanctuary for body and soul. Shuiqi Salon meanwhile is on hand to perfect your style ready for date night at one of the resort’s romantic restaurants; ladies salon services and men’s grooming are available.”
