The city of Dubai is building a whole new city – Dubailand – complete with theme parks, malls, hotels and the like. The plans ran into serious trouble not least because of the world economic crisis, and the idea of Dubailand was all but a whisper in the ears of the emirate. Earlier this year, however, the plans began to come together once more and work resumed.

Restless Planet, a dinosaur-based theme park in collaboration with the Natural History Museum, London, opened in 2010. Whilst the Formula One World theme park was unfortunately scrapped, IMG Theme Park was back on the cards with its collaboration with Turner CN, to bring the characters of Cartoon Network – including a 5-D cinema of Ben 10 – to life in theme park form.

So with plans back on track, here is everything you could possibly want to know about Dubailand, but never really thought to ask. Probably…
