Most people don’t know how diverse the Spanish Islands are. You can’t compare the volcanic plains of Lanzarote with the chic towns of Ibiza for example. And there’s no way to liken losing yourself in a cobbled Majorcan street with hiking through a tropical forest in Tenerife.

So you’re a photographer. An explorer. An adventurer, or simply a curious traveller.  You want to see the stunning scenery with your own eyes, and capture the perfect photograph of a spectacular landscape, street, bar, club or person. And you might be thinking; ‘where do I go first?’ and that’s okay. We’ve compiled a summary of each island below, listing our favourite photographic hotspots. No matter whether you’re a party aficionado, nature lover or culture vulture, Spain’s photographic offerings have you covered.

Majorca

When most people think of a holiday to Majorca, they picture its sandy shores, and why not? The coastline is where Majorca does not disappoint.  But although Majorca is primarily a scenic getaway sprinkled with sculpted cliffs, hidden coves, powdery beaches, mountaintop-lakes and wild bays, this Spanish island also offers a cultural escape like no other. And for the evenings when you want to go a little crazy, head to the (in)famous Magaluf for one of the best nights out you’ll never remember. The photo opportunities range from a besotted fun-filled evenings, to mountainous valleys featuring local farmers herding their stock, to the beaches that make Majorca famous. Regardless of what you’re seeking, you’ll return from your Majorca holiday with a photo to remember.

Tenerife

Parties, clubs, beach bodies and bikinis: Tenerife is a Spanish island famous, if not slightly notorious, for the British holidaymaker’s influence on its bone-white beaches. But Tenerife offers visitors more than a boozy seaside break. Escaping the club scene and venturing towards Tenerife’s undiscovered backstreets unveils a surprisingly peaceful land of culture, tropical forest walks, and volcanic scenery. Sights you can’t miss include a huge annual carnival, museums, temples, modern art and cosy colonial towns. For the full scenic indulgency, nothing beats Pico del Teide, the tallest mountain in Spain, a hiker’s haven and a photographer’s dream. Of course, once you’re ready to let your hair down, Tenerife boats some of the world’s most exciting club scenes too.

  • THE MONEYSHOT: Capturing Tenerife’s resident volcano (Pico del Teide) makes a truly explosive shot.
  • WHERE TO STAY: Baobab Suites offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean.

Climbing volcanoes might sound risky, but it pays off with incredible views of this beautiful Spanish Island.

Ibiza

Ibiza is even more of a mixed bag than Tenerife. But it’s more beautiful than you think too. Wander the streets to catch sight of bohemian travellers hand-in-hand with beach ravers and intoxicatingly fresh cocktails beside local wine from a micro-vineyard. Catch an all night rave and soak in the David Guetta beats, then the next day slink away from the bustling shorefront scene to discover the peaceful hideaways this Spanish island enjoys. Relax as you snap the sunset by your mellow Sant Antoni de Portmany cafe, then discover the off-the-beaten track side to the island. These peaceful secrets of Ibiza include pine-sprinkled forests, ancient city ramparts, historical buildings or hidden coves and beaches. Regardless of your game, Ibiza City is a must-do purely for its Unesco-listed Dalt Vila (located in Ibiza Town) and its sun kissed city streets.

  • THE MONEYSHOT: Visit Ibiza’s salt flats to snap spectacular reflections and stunning sunsets.
  • WHERE TO STAY: Hotel Aguas de Ibiza is located in Santa Eulalia: the perfect base to explore Ibiza.
Sights from a Spanish Island

An enclave of calm. Almost. Ibiza is a Spanish Island that bursts with serene scenery alongside its vibrant party scene.

Lanzarote

Dusty, wild and spectacular. This UNESCO biosphere reserve glows with an untamed beauty, yet sheaths it’s towns and villages with a vibrant bubble. Lanzarote is a nature-lover’s dream, with miles of barren landscapes to explore. Conquer a dormant volcano, seek out the sanctuary of a palm-lined valley or walk into another world when you encounter the island’s lava fields.  And we haven’t even got to the beaches yet. Think great swathes of shoreline backed by rugged cliffs, sparkling warm water, and black-sand beaches with a uniquely surreal feel. And then there’s the bustling city shorelines with loungers, cocktails and refreshing snacks at hand. Lanzarote has it all.

  • THE MONEYSHOT: A black-sand beach surrounded by craggy cliffs is bound to cause awe.
  • WHERE TO STAY: Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort is a picturesque award-winning wonder.
