There are a lot of music-related clubs about: sweaty indie venues, expensive super-clubs and idiosyncratic famous sites; like London’s fabulously trendy Ronnie Scotts or New York’s punk mecca, the now defunct CBGBs. They come in all shapes and sizes too. You can have rooftop clubs, basement clubs (like Liverpool’s rather famous Cavern) and you can even have clubs with terrible toilets and even worse beer, actually there is a positive plethora of those around. But have you ever heard of an underwater club? If you said yes, you almost certainly dreamed it, because up until this month such a thing simply didn’t exist. For it was during this month that the deluxe offshore wonder that is Subsix was launched. As you’ve probably already deduced, it is the very first underwater music club.

Subsix and its overwater restaurant Edge are accessible only by water and complete the deluxe magic available at the mysteriously named NIYAMA, Per AQUUM’s newest resort in the Maldives. To celebrate the opening of their super sensorial new venue, the hotel is pleased to announce two super deluxe guests to do the honours.

Global superstars Tinie Tempah and DJ Poet will arrive on the isle of deluxe resort to open the new venue on October 27 and November 2 2012 respectively. It will be Tempah’s first ever performance in the Maldives and the two-time BRIT Award winner will play two shows at the underwater venue, treating guests to hits like Pass Out and Written in the Stars.

More suited to twiddling knobs behind a mixing desk, DJ Poet is perhaps not as well known as Tinie but that doesn’t mean he isn’t as musically adept or as exciting a prospect on stage. Producer, songwriter, remixer and founder of Listen Deep, Poet is the official DJ for the Black Eyed Peas and is about to produce and score music for his own sci-fi movie; he also knows how to get a party started.

The lucky few who get to see the duo perform separate shows in Subsix will not only be thrilled by the musical dexterity on offer but also by the sublime and unique venue itself. Subsix is accessed via a staircase from Edge restaurant that takes guests six-metres below the surface of the Indian Ocean. Here, patrons will find themselves in supremely intimate surroundings; floor to ceiling windows fill three sides of the venue which has a bar and DJ console along the back wall. Seating is carefully dotted around the club allowing unobstructed views of the variety of marine life that floats past the submerged musical destination, including: clown fish, manta rays and parrot fish among other exotic marine life.

If you don’t get to see Tinie and, er, DJ, you can always try and catch one of the, sure-to-be, marvellous shows on at the unique venue in the future and remember, you can book fabulous holidays to the Maldives (other destinations are available), with Kenwood Travel, right now.
