Thailand was once considered to be the “hidden gem” of South East Asia. Although it is still definitely considered to be a “gem” of the area with its beautiful coasts and intriguing culture, you would be stretching the imagination to call it “hidden”. Brits abroad have control of Bangkok, whilst Pattaya and Phuket are full of expats and Koh Phangan is populated by drunken teens. This isn’t to say that it isn’t still a great country to visit, however it does mean you may have to stray a bit further to find absolute peace and serenity.

Evidentially the owners of The Racha were thinking exactly the same thing when they chose this gorgeous location, just 12 miles south of Phuket, as it’s a place that is still generally unheard of and untouched by the masses. It’s all very well being social, but it’s still nice to know that there’s always somewhere to retreat to, away from the noise, hubbub and overflowing buckets and clinking bottles of Chang.

So if you do take a 45 minute longboat or speedboat down to the island, just what is it that you’re going to find at The Racha resort? Everything, that’s what. Onsite there is a vast selection of things to keep everyone busy, such as: two swimming pools, with underwater music, floodlit tennis and basketball courts; mountain bikes, ATVs, kayaks, and boats available for rental, diving and snorkelling excursions, island hikes, beach volleyball and loads more. They also have a fair amount of meeting space and the Anumba Spa that includes a great range of treatments as well as a sauna, steam room, yoga room, gym, shop and bar.

The resort has seven different options when it comes to bars and restaurants. You have the Earth Café, the Fire Grill, the Sunset Beach Restaurant, Gerardo’s Beach Club, the Ice Bar, the Lobby Bar and, of course, in-villa dining. Whilst speaking of villas, there’s six different accommodation options, each of which as appealing as the next: Deluxe Villas, Grand Deluxe Villas, Grand Deluxe Pool Villas, the Junior Pool Suites, the Grand Pool Suites and the Lighthouse. The Lighthouse is particularly special, as one of its five stories is a 360 degree observation deck offering, whom ever it houses, spectacular views of the surrounding area. This is along with private Jacuzzis in both en suite bathrooms, two double and two single bedrooms, a privatised swimming pool and open-air relaxation pavilion and all of the usual amenities.

The Racha is a sign that holidays in Thailand can still be luxurious and family-based, so book your stay with Kenwood Travel now!
