Things to do in Majorca

When you visit the island a trip to the city of Palma is an absolute must. Catedral, which was completed in 1601 after three centuries of work, is a monolithic complex. Damaged by an earthquake in the 19th century, the Catedral was modified to include neo-gothic features and as such this place of worship presents a peculiar, but nonetheless beautiful, blend of Renaissance delicacy and Gothic grandeur.

Opposite the Catedral you'll find the foreboding Palau de l'Almudaina. Built as an Islamic fort, this huge building later became the palatial residence of the Majorcan royals. Nowadays the palace has opened its doors to visitors and taking a wander around the vast halls and sprawling grounds is an experience well worth taking.

For those wanting to delve beneath Majorca and discover its most ancient history, the island boasts an impressive system of vast cave networks. Coves del Drac takes visitors on a trail measuring over one kilometre and takes in amazing stalagmites and stalactites, if you're lucky you may even be treated to some live classical music deep within the chambers of the caves.

Fans of he writer Robert Graves will certainly wish to visit his home in Deiá. Casa Robert Graves has been lovingly preserved and is found pretty much as he left it, visitors are treated to recitals of the great man's poetry and can pick up volumes of his work in the gift shop.
