As the grey weather continues to remind us that Christmas is officially over and winter is here to stay, it is important to make sure we have more pleasant things to take our minds off the new year lull. There is arguably no better way to achieving post New Year Nirvana than with a trip to Florida, one of the most sun drenched destinations in the United States.

Florida, for many, is mainly seen as a destination for summer when the sun is beating down most intensely and temperatures are almost guaranteed to skyrocket. However Florida doesn’t need summer to be an awesome holiday destination, there are loads of ways to make the most of the ‘Sunshine State’ during the winter months. Kenwood Travel has plenty of options that are guaranteed to make the most of the fabulous Florida weather and rejuvenate you right when you need it most.

Miami, which has an average winter temperature of 23 degrees compared to London’s 5 degrees, could be the perfect city to help banish those niggling winter blues. Although Miami attracts many looking to enjoy a slower pace of life, the city itself is far from retiring. Miami’s South Beach, known by locals as SoBe, is one of the hippest places on earth and attracts celebrities and socialites in their droves. You can hit the dance floors or simply sit back and relax as world class mixologists ply you with some of the most amazing cocktails money can buy.

Miami also caters well for the culture vultures among us and has a selection of fantastic galleries to visit. The Perez Art Museum for instance, which itself looks like a stunning piece of contemporary art, is a vibrant and varied gallery and has exhibited many esteemed artists in the past.

Florida is of course synonymous with blockbusting theme parks, many of which centre around Orlando. Part of the beauty of Florida is that unlike many other destinations where the weather is simply too wet and cold during winter, theme parks are open all year round.

Orlando, where Disney World can be found, is still positively lovely this time of year with daytime temperatures reaching 21 degrees. Rather unfairly this counts as Orlando’s coldest annual period. Daylight hours average around 7 hours per day during winter in this part of Florida so there’s plenty of time to enjoy the rides! Perhaps the best thing about Orlando during the winter months is that January, February and March have a much lower average rate of rainfall than the summer months, which obviously is comforting for when you’re at the summit of a roller coaster!

If tearing through the parks at Disney World doesn’t sound like your cup of tea at this time of year, then why not visit the Florida Keys? This stunning archipelago features a rich tapestry of more than 1700 unique islands to make your winter woes melt away. The weather at this time of year in the Florida Keys remains wonderfully warm and during the winter months, which over there are classed as between November and April, temperatures stay between an average of 21 and 26 degrees Celsius. The fact that the weather isn’t as stiflingly hot as during the summer months and that rainfall is lower than average during winter makes for ideal conditions for visiting areas such as the incredible Everglades.

So as the winter months cast their gloomy spell over those of us who don’t have the luxury of living in a tropical climate, book yourself an escape to the Sunshine State. Whether it’s a cocktail and a dance, an unforgettable roller coaster ride or a serene break to the Keys, the Florida weather will make your winter blues seem like a distant memory.
